Vastavam Web: One of India’s greatest singers, legendary SP Balasubramanyam who left a strong mark in the music industry of India is no more.
Legendary singer SP Balasubramanyam, who had tested positive for Covid-19 , passed away today at the age of 74. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai and was admitted there on August 5 after he showed mild Covid-19 symptoms. However, in the last 24 hours, his condition had deteriorated further, warranting maximal life support.
The official statement from MGM Healthcare said that despite maximal life support measures, the singer died of a cardio-respiratory arrest. He passed away on September 25 at 1:04pm. At the age of 74, he left everyone thereby leaving his millions of fans and family in tears. He had tested negative for Covid-19 on September 5. Common people as well as members of the film fraternity had got together to organize mass prayers hoping for his recovery while he was in the hospital.
From Kamal Haasan to Rajinikanth, celebs across India had sent in their well wishes for the Tamil singer. As news of his death broke, music maestro AR Rahman, singer Lata Mangeshkar mourned his loss.
SP Balasubramanyam has crooned over 1000 songs for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam films. He has entertained people of various generations. SP Balasubramanyam was honored with a Padma Shri (fourth-highest civilian award) in 2001 and Padma Bhushan (third-highest civilian award) in 2011 by the Government of India for his contribution to cinema.
