IAF Pilot Abhinandan Varthaman’s parents get standing ovation on flight

Vastavam Web: IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has been returned to India at the Wagah-Attari border, two days after being captured by Pakistan during an intense aerial dogfight. As the nation is preparing to welcome Abhinandan Varthaman, the Indian Air Force’s pilot who was captured by Pakistan on Wednesday, his parents received a standing ovation from co-passengers on a flight to New Delhi. Passengers on board the Chennai-New Delhi flight on Thursday night were quick to identify the couple travelling with them and burst into cheers and claps as they walked towards their seats. Veteran Air Marshal (Retd.) Simhakutty Varthaman and wife Shobha Varthaman were travelling to New Delhi to receive their son, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who is scheduled to return to India on Friday. The Border Security Force (BSF) has cancelled today’s flag-lowering and retreat ceremony at the border in view of the IAF pilot’s return to avoid tensions.
