Cyclone Phethai: Coastal areas on high alert in Andhra, Tamil Nadu

Vastavam Web: Coastal areas in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu has been put on high alert as the deep depression in Bay of Bengal turned into a cyclonic storm heading to the coastal areas. The severe cyclonic storm Phethai over west central Bay of Bengal moved further northwards with a speed of 24-kmph and weakened into a cyclonic storm and the lay centered at 90 km south of Kakinada and moving to landfall around Kakinada coast at about 3 pm today on Monday. Heavy rainfall is expected in Ongole and Kakinada as the cyclone likely to cross the areas.

The system is likely to slightly weaken further before landfall. The IMD is its latest predictions informed that the wind speed of 70-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph while the system crossing the coast.
