Movie Review: Nannu Dochukunduvate

OVERVIEW: Karthik (Sudheer Babu) is a boss at a software company. He dreams of going to America. When he is pushed to marry his maradalu, Karthik lies to his father (Nasser) that he is in love with a girl named Siri. He drafts Meghana (Nabha Natesh) as Siri to fool his father. But things become messy when she falls in love with him in due course of time but he can see only his dollar dreams. Karthik’s inner personality is problematic and the rest of the film is about why he is what he is, and whether he finds true love in Siri.

REVIEW: This is actor Sudheer Babu’s maiden production. He has chosen a script that suits well for his body language. ‘Nannu Dochukunduvate’ has simple story line – a girl falling in love with a guy who has asked her to act as his girlfriend for few days. It is quote an old plotline. To give it contemporary look, the debutant director has added the current trend of short films. The girl is an actress in short films. Since the plotline and narrative is predictable, the director has relied on the comic moments generating from this contemporary setup – short films. Those episodes have created hilarious moments. In fact, the film is watchable due to these comedy of errors related to short films.

The film begins interestingly and the entire first half runs in decent way with regular scenes. The newcomer Nabha Natesh holds the scenes in the first half with her innocent and lively act. But the film turns serious and monotonous in the second half with too much of predictability.

In the role of a software company’s manager, Sudheer Babu is impressive. He is also convincing in comic act, the best performance moment come from him in final scenes with his father Nasser and in a comic short film acting. Nabha Natesh in her Telugu debut impresses with her livewire acting. Nasser as Sudheer Babu’s father has lengthy role and the senior actor adds value.

Director RS Naidu did well in getting the emotions and subtle humor right. Also the characters and contemporary setting is good. However, the screenplay is too dry with a lot of drags in between. Director lacks grip over the narrative in the second half. A couple of songs are impressive. Ajaneesh does well with the background score too. Cinematography is decent and editing is not up to the mark in second half. Production values are good.

FInal verdict of the film is Nannu Dochukunduvate is a typical romantic comedy which is narrated on a simple and entertaining note. Debutante Nabha Natesh leads from the front and wins you over with her standout performance.
