Good relation between India and France would be boosted: Mamata Banerjee

Vastavam web: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the good relation between India and France would be boosted further by the Kolkata book fair in which France is the theme country this year.At the inaugural programme of the 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair, Banerjee called upon the intellectuals to be alert against any effort to distort history and science.Banerjee, whose nine books were released on the occasion, said despite the advent of social network, the love for books will remain undiminished.

Inaugurating the book fair, veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee said, “While incidents of crime in the media disturb us, the surging number of book lovers in the fair makes us believe that not everything is lost.” Chatterjee, who had won the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2012, was given the CESC Srishti award by the chief minister for his lifelong contribution in the field of art and culture.He also referred to the diversity of language and literature the two countries shared.

The pavilion of France, the theme country, in this edition of book fair, would be interactive and innovative and “focused on our history, present and future.”
General Secretary of Publishers and Booksellers’ Guild Tridib Chatterjee said, 30 countries and 80 writers will take part in the book fair and literary meet on the fair ground.
