Vastavam web:In order to put a halt on the increasing number of bogus PAN cards across the country, the Government of India, has deactivated as many as 11.44 lakh PAN cards by July this year. According to government rule, it is illegal for a person to have more than one PAN number registered under his/ her name and it is also advisable to link your Aadhaar number with PAN before the deadline i,e. August 31. A report by Indian Express says that the central government has also noticed several fake PAN cards are allotted to non-existing people or individuals who have provided false information about themselves for PAN.
Explaining the reason behind such move, government in a recent statement said, The uniqueness of PAN is achieved by conducting a de-duplication check on all already existing allotted PAN against the data furnished by new applicant. Under the existing system of PAN, only demographic data is captured.
