Movie Review: Jayadev

OVERVIEW: Getting into film industry is a tough task and it requires a lot of luck with minimal are many ways to do so. One simple way is having someone influential in the industry or having a powerful and rich background to support. Ganta Ravi Teja who is son of Andhra Pradesh minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao is debuting into industry with Jayadev, which is remake of Vijay Sethupathi starrer Sethupathi a Tamil film which was a good hit with a powerful content. The Story is Jayadev(Ghanta Ravi) a sincere police officer who gets involved in a deadly murder case of a cop. Upon his investigation, he comes to know that a dreaded liquor don(Vinod Kumar) is behind all this. Rest of the story is as to how a sincere and simple sub-inspector like Jayadev tackles the mighty Don and puts him behind the bars.

REVIEW: Debut hero Ghanta Ravi is okay and has a long way to go in terms of acting. He has a good physique and will nicely fit serious roles if used well. With time and more films, he should do better. The heroine of the film, Malavika Raj looks quite glamorous and provides good eye candy for the audience.
Vinod Kumar plays a key role after a long time. One of the fights where the hero hides his face has been shot quite stylishly. The way the problems that cops face have been showcased in an interesting manner. Some investigation scenes have been handled well.

The first half of the movie is just a nice setup. We get an idea of the characters and the problem. The basic story is the same but it has been neatly customized to our sensibilities. The problem is at every turn the bad casting never lets one get immersed in the proceedings. All the crucial moments to engage with narrative come across as unintentionally comic or just bad, due to the pathetic acting and presence of the lead actor. The second half, despite such uninspiring presence, is decent. We are at a point engaged to the narrative even though the hero tries his best to make it otherwise, thanks to the basic content. The half an hour portion before the climax is good even with all the negatives in place.

It is very disappointing to see a director like Jayanth C who made films like Preminchukundam Raa direct this film in such a bad manner. The villain’s track is so poor that there is nothing else to look forward as the film moves on some silly and loud scenes most of the time.Production values of the film are just average. Music of the film is okay and so was the background score. Camera work was pretty decent and showcased the cop set-up in an interesting manner. Editing is pathetic as at least 15 minutes could have been easily chopped off.

Finally verdict is “Jayadev” is a too heavy subject for a debutante like Ghanta Ravi. He should have chosen a simple film to make his entry in Tollywood.Director is only focused in introducing a son of politician as hero and he failed in executing the gripping story in a convincing and interesting way. Vennela Kishore is only the saving grace of movie and there is nothing more than that to excite about except for the background score by Mani Sharma here and there.Jayadeva is just an average and one time watchable film.
