Vastavam web: Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the purpose behind steeply raising the fines for traffic-related offences is not revenue but safety. “We are implementing this to create fear and respect for the law. It is not a revenue-making proposal but a proposal to save the lives of the people. We are losing 2% GDP due to road accidents,” Gadkari said.
He also suggested that States shouldn’t dilute the new rules by lessening the quantum of fines.
