Opposition parties back DMK’s demand for Karuna’s burial at Marina

Vastavam web: DMK sought Tamil Nadu Government permission for burying M Karunanidhi next to the grave of his mentor & party founder CN Annadurai at Anna Square memorial on Marina Beach in Chennai. However, AIADMK Government turned down the demand of DMK to bury it’s patriarch at the Marina Beach. Instead, Main Opposition was asked to prefer the 2-acre plot near Gandhi Mandapam, which is a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi.

Initially, State Government responded positively but turned down the request later citing court cases against construction of memorial along Marina Beach. Rules doesn’t permit construction activity or memorials within 500 metres from the water front. DMK Cadre demands Tamil Nadu Government to permit burial of Karunanidhi at the Marina Beach.

Opposition parties throughout the country are uniting behind DMK’s demand to allot space for the burial of five-time chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi at ‘Anna Square’ on Marina beach. Rahul Gandhi, Sitaram Yechury and D Raja, apart from popular Tamil actor and recent political debutant Rajinikanth, backed DMK’s demand and urged the government to allot the leader a space on the famed sands through Twitter posts.

While opposition leaders were extending support to the DMK, senior party leader and member of DMK legal team, A Saravanan alleged “design” being hatched by the RSS and the BJP against the demand of DMK leaders and supporters regarding their party patriarch’s final resting place.
