Sulkhan Singh — From humble background to UP’s top cop

Sulkhan Singh, a senior cop, got reorganization after a long waiting and mean while he was humiliated by the previous governments. Even he was posted to work under his juniors but finally the Chief Minister Yogi has identified his honesty and appointed him DGP of Uttar Pradesh.

For the residents of Jauharpur village in Banda district,200 km south of the state capital, UP’s new director general of police (DGP) Sulkhan Singh is a ‘karm yogi’ or one who believes in action. Former head of Jauharpur village Balwan Singh said Sulkhan Singh came from a humble background and rose to the top post in the state police by dint of hard work and commitment.

From the gate, one has to cross farm machines, tools and gunny bags packed with grain to reach the verandah where it becomes clear that farming is the main occupation of the family.

Sulkhan Singh, the senior most IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) by the Yogi Adityanath-led state government. Sulkhan Singh would replace Javeed Ahmed, the incumbent DGP of UP.

Sulkhan Singh, the 1980 batch IPS officer, would be heading the police department of Uttar Pradesh. He was currently posted in the Training Department of UP police.

The senior IPS Officer is known for his honesty and simplicity. Even after 37 years of Service Sulkhan Singh has just 2.3 acres of Land which he bought for 40,000 rupees in a village in Banda and is now valued at just 3 lakh rupees. He even paid the cost of his 3 room house in Lucknow in installments.
